online registration link not working. What about trackwrestling?
Online registration link will be posted as soon as it’s active. Much of the staff is working the Virginia Duals this weekend.
It is now posted.
Is there a satellite weigh in location Southside? i.e., Chesapeake, Va Beach
Has a schedule or itinerary been developed for Saturday and Sunday?
Are you allowed 1 pound allowance for weigh-in with singlet ?
Please confirm.
Thanks.
Are you going to have any satellite
e weigh-in in Richmond?
I’m amazed at the lack of information for this tournament.
What time does it start on Saturday ? Is there a schedule or itenerary yet ? Please.
I am also confused, because the information on the front page of the website for the tournament for Jan 28-29th is no longer there. It included deadlines, schedules and satellite weighin locations. It was there on Tuesday. So what happened? Kellie A.
Is the schedule posted somewhere else and I just can’t find it?
Why is there no information on what time to check in on Saturday?

Looking for a schedule of events! General information! Something!
are you going to post results since they were not updated on track wrestling?
This tournament has gone down hill over the last couple of years and this year was by far the worst. Entry fee’s ($25) for coaches were more than spectators (do they not realize the coaches bring the wrestlers), information not passed or posted anywhere, bracket sheets never updated, fewer mats, lack of referees and table workers, wrestlers getting hurt due to gaps between mats, etc…..My team and other team coaches that I spoke with will not be returning next year.
John if you could provide some ways to help us through the hurdles we hit this year that would be great.
Great tournament…….Quality competition…Very well run.
This year was a joke! Only 6 mats running. Could have been a 1 day tourny but made it 2 day. I also think a birth cert. should be required at weigh ins. There were several kids snuck in that were in high school trying to wrestle middle school kids. They had to be DQ’d after it was bought to light. I think it needs to start being about the kids and not about the money.
Sorry it went so bad for you. Do you think you could help us next year with improving it? We had trouble getting mats and officials this year so anything you could contribute would be great.
I agree with the other comments. It’s important to have an after action completed in order to fix the problems faced. I believe this year’s tournament was poorly run from the beginning for these reasons : 1) The site was not up and running until about two weeks in advance 2) registrations asked for accomplishments but this tournament didn’t seed the wrestlers as they said they would which meant that those who should have been in the finals weren’t 3) many wrestlers didn’t wrestle on day 1 due to the poor running of the tournament on certain mats while others moved more quickly 4) There were fewer wrestlers this year, some brackets with only 2 wrestlers, 5) there were fewer mats available to wrestle 6) Brackets were never updated 7) Absolutely no control over people walking behind the scoring tables where only coaches and wrestlers are authorized 8) This year, you only placed the top 4 wrestlers, where in the past the top 6 placed. 9) The podium was lacking and unprofessional. The place finish were pieces of paper taped with blue tape on the outside. Last year, there was a banner and nice podium for the place finishers. This year, not so nice! 10) When issues were brought up, everyone acted like they didn’t care what your concern was.
RECOMMENDATIONS: corresponds with issue numbers above.
1) Publish the flyer and get the website up and running at least 30 days out.
2) Seed the kids appropriately, don’t fake the funk and say you did. It’s a waste of time if you don’t use the information provided. If you don’t want to seed the wrestlers who earned that right, then publish the flyer stating that the tournament is a “blind seed”
3) Work early enough to provide enough referees and mats for a tournament of this size. Also provide a warm-up mat for those wrestler in the shoot..
4) Promote earlier. Not sure if this is going to work seeing how this year’s tournament went so poorly. Good luck next year! At least look at combining weight classes if needed. When one wrestler has to wrestle the same kid 3 times, it’s not much fun for either of them.
5) Same as #3 above.
6) Update the brackets after each round. This shows that you care and are providing a professional product for your customers. Trying to guess who your next opponent is, just makes things miserable for everyone.
7) Post security at both ends of the center area. You did a great job at controlling this two years ago.
8) Place top 6 or 8 wrestlers like all other state tournaments. Don’t be cheap.
9) Put the banners up and paint the place finish on the podium. Don’t use blue painters tape on the podium; it really made it look elementary. Professionalize the tournament, these kids deserve it.
10) Actively listen to those who really want this tournament to run smooth. Don’t just gaff concerns off as though it doesn’t matter because we all want to improve the tournament.
Lastly, there was some very good competition in most weight brackets. The only concern that I have is when tournaments are run by grade rather than age. There seemed to have been many wrestlers held back in school in order to be tougher competition in their respective grade level. This practice is not fair to those wrestlers who are legitimate. When you are talking about being a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, especially for younger wrestlers, it doesn’t make sense that a 12 year old who was held back and is wrestling in 6th grade is wrestling a young 10 year old that is legitimately in 5th grade. There was some very lopsided wrestling at this tournament. I’m sure that commend #14 witnessed this in the middle school division. You should think about putting this tournament together by age rather than grade, and in return, you will see some better competition at all levels and true champions will emerge!
Just curious on how many of you actually volunteered to help. I thought it was very well done. I have taken my son to about a dozen different tournaments, this one was by far the best. A friend of mine that came to see my son wrestle volunteered upon arrival. Those of you so quick to complain have no idea how much help it takes to pull something like this off. Next year step up and offer to help.
Steve
I think they could have done a better job of putting the agenda and scheduling information out prior to the tournament. I had email Frank and Felix and no replys. Lack of information was frustrating. $25 for the coaches is a rip off, IMO. Last but not least, I agree that for younger kids up to 6th grade could have been done in a day instead of two, saving many people hotel costs. As for HS wrestlers cheating, I think that’s on the coach and the club that they represented. Parents too.
I go to many tournaments as well. Overall, I give the tournament a passing grade of D.
Steve, good point on the volunteering effort…however, the reason why I can offer my OPINION is because of my 17 years of experience and assistance running tournaments. Don’t be so quick to judge those who are trying to voice thier opinions to make this tournament better. Without those willing to offer ideas and recommendations, VAC will only go down hill. WE don’t want that to happen. As you can see, Jack Harcourt ASKED for ways to fix the issues seen by coaches, parents and wrestlers. That’s what is going on here. Nobody wants VAC to fail…only to make it run efficient and fair.
